Gas For Peace
Normalization Through Energetic Independence
Our goals are clear :
- Provide natural gas to the Palestinian people.
- Move from dependency on Israeli energy to energetic independence.
- Train Palestinian professionals for working in the gas industry.
- Through increased Palestinian independence, Israeli-Palestinian cooperation, and education, increase trust and promote peace in the region.
Gas For Peace
at a Glance:
Gaza Marine Gas Field is made of two natural gas reservoirs (Gaza Marine 1 and Gaza Marine 2) located 30 km off the coast of the Gaza Strip, 600 m below the surface of the Mediterranean Sea in the Levant Basin. The Gaza Marine gas fields were discovered by British Gas as part of a seismic survey performed for the Palestinian Authority. It is estimated that these two fields can produce one trillion cubic feet of gas, enough for the Palestinians to fully power the West Bank and the Gaza Strip for 15 years, and have an excess of natural gas to sell for profit. However, and mainly for political reasons, these gas fields have remained undeveloped for the past 20 years, ever since their discovery in 1999.
Activities
Gas for Peace is a non-profit organization aimed at addressing the different faucets of the Gaza Marine gas fields subject, with a clear goal to promote their development and consequent utilization of natural gas energy in the Palestinian territories. We promote general awareness, lobbying within both Israeli and Palestinian Parliaments, and strive to assist in the education and development of local Palestinian professionals in the energy field. We believe that regional normalization should be based on mutual projects and the delivery of the Palestinian people into energetic, economic, and civil independence.
Public Relations
Working with both Palestinian and Israeli Parlaments, distributing public awareness, and promoting media spotlights.
Exploration and Development
Gas For Peace has a strong professional background in subsurface geology and natural gas production. We employ this knowledge as part of our mission for the development of the Gaza Marine gas fields
Higher Education
In Gas For Peace we believe that Palestinian gas should be provided by Palestinian professionals. Additionally, we believe that education, the pursuit of knowledge, and an independent Palestinian economy are the basis for regional normalization, followed by a sustainable Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. For this end, we work in cooperation with Palestinian Universities to produce a state of the art graduate program in Geology and a Natural Gas & Petroleum Engineering Program.
Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are”
